Traveling in South America

Thank author of this post/commentOnce residency is obtained and the cedula is issued, does one still need to use a passport to travel through South America, particularly Brazil and Argentina or does the cedula work at the border crossings.

I travel regularly between Colonia and Buenos Aires on my cedula.

The only time I'm supposed to show my passport is when I enter Argentina with the intention of departing to Europe from the airport.

I haven't tried using it when travelling to Brazil.

I gone to Argentina and back several times with just my cedula. Once I entered Argentina with my Cedula and then flew to Asia. I got a bit of a lecture from immigration in the airport to enter with my passport when I planned to go to Asia.

I've also entered Brazil with just my cedula.
