Punta del Diablo

Thank author of this post/commentWhat is there to do or see in Punta del Diablo? Are there any good restaurants? Hotels? How is the internet there? Can you get high speed? Do the Antel, Claro, or Movistar 3G services work good there?

What would be a good length of time to plan on for a trip to Punta del Diablo? How it is this time of year?

Thank author of this post/commentHi Lee:

It is always a good time to visit Punta del Diablo. October and November are probably the best months to do it. Ask Elaine who is an expert. From end December to March there is just too much people. If you enjoy crowds then it's a good time to go.

There are quite a few hotels. The most popular is probably El Diablo Tranquilo, that is owned by an American, so English is spoken there. They have a website (eldiablotranquilo.com) that has an English version.

There is Internet, although I'm not sure about the speed, and all cellphones work fine there.

There are a lot of restaurants in summer and some that are open all the year. They are all very informal (all Punta del Diablo is very informal), and you will find more seafood restaurants than parrillas. My particular favourite is Al Pairo, right on the beach, but I believe it is open only in summer.

Below is the link to the English version of the official Punta del Diablo website called El Portal del Diablo.

Thank author of this post/commentHey Alejandro,

Which one is El Pairo? I never went to that one...but now I want to try!

Unfortunately I must say that Uruguayan food isn't my favourite but Punta del Diablo has some great spots to eat...they do lots of wonderful fresh sea food, and I really love the mejillones empanadas (pastry puches filled with mussels) that they sell on the wooden pier.

As for internet...I know a few places there have internet (decent speed although I don't know the numbers) and there is an internet cafe during the summer...I'm not sure about the mobile internet but I guess if mobile phone service is good there then mobile internet should be fine too right?

I would definitely agreen with Alejandro on the time of year to go - November is lovely there - just warming up but still quiet...or else go from March to May when its still hot but all the big crowds have left.

If you prefer a more active vibe then high season (December, January and the Carnaval month of February) is more for you.

Enjoy it! Its an amazing place!

Thank author of this post/commentHi Elaine:

Al Pairo is right behind the wooden pier, on the small street that goes to the cape. If you are walking down the main street, when you get to the beach (and the wooden pier) you turn right and Al Pairo is just half a block away. They have great empanadas too.

"Internet"

Internet 3G from Ancel works fine in Valizas, so it will work in Diablo as well.

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 3704032283
