If I decide to Visit Uruguay Travel Travel, Uruguayrowena105 from UNIVERSAL STUDIOS DOWN SOUTH -
If I decide to visit Uruguay to scope out the possibilities of travelling there to find what it would be like in "real life" to live there where would you suggest I stay. In other words what area is best to stay in to see the real culture and people of Uruguay in their everyday life and get information about the types of places to possibly live should I decide to move there. I hear a lot about Punte Del Este... is that the best place to vacation in order to get the information or is this place a little inflated as far as living conditions and residents living there? Any help you can give would be appreciated. Trackbacks

Rent an apartment for a couple months in a place or two... ie: couple months in Montevideo, couple in Punta del Este.

OOOO! Rowena what a marvelous adventurous thing to do. I am so jealous. Take me with you. We'd have a fantastic time; I just know it.

Lee’s suggestion of renting apartments for a couple of months is a good one.As far as the coastal area, I’m not sure I’d lock in to La Punta. As a base it’s OK perhaps, but don’t miss the real towns near by. We spent a couple of months in the area and found Punta del Este too much like any other place in the world. The more genuine towns are close to La Punta: Piriapolis and Jose Ignacio. The natural settings are far more beautiful also. Our web site has pictures of both. Steve

Lee and Ken are right. Montevideo is the real thing and a modern city. Punta is great but glorified. The real Uruguay is in the small beach towns, or the the big city...

You suggested to her that she rent an apartment in a couple of places. Do they rent apartments on short term leases there? If so what would the rents be like and what type of apartment could you find for perhaps 2-3 weeks at a time? Of course they would have to be furnished and that the case is there a premium that needs to be paid for the use and wear and tear on the furniture. Also, yes Sweet Angel it does sound adventurous and I would love to try it as well. Maybe we should set upt a meet sometime and the 3 of us look at the potential for that. As they say there is safety in numbers. LOL

Our experience in Montevideo was that renting Furnished apartments was easier and there didn't seem to be a preimum to be paid (and especially not in the deposit arena). We rented one for 3 months with no trouble. Not sure about shorter terms...

If you're interested in spending time on the coast, it's easy to find a furnished place for a few weeks or a few months.Vacation Rentals by Owners has options. There is a link of our site for to vrbo.

Sorry! I must have gone brain dead. The last sentence in the above comment makes no sense. What I meant to say is: Vacation Rentals by Owners has options. There is a link on our site to vrbo.

Great to know that you find leases that short. It seems like you are in for a great trip. I would definitely consider an apartment if you are planning for a longer stay.
