I will be arriving to Montevideo late in the evening and would like to find a hotel close to the airport. I will be in Montevideo for one night. I would like to hear any suggestions.

I heard about the place called Hosteria del Lago that's a four star hotel. It's very close to the airport but I don't think it's located near any attractions.

If you can find thier website they might be able to tell you a little more. Even if they are farther away from most attractions they might offer a shuttle or can you directions to some of ones nearby.

Hotel CottageSobre la panorámica rambla de Montevideo, en el barrio residencial de Carrasco, a tan solo 8 minutos del Aeropuerto y 15 de centro de la ciudad, está el Hotel Cottage.
This seems a bit pricey, but they say 8 minutes from the airport and 15 from downtown.

Pocitos Plaza HotelDiseñado y construido en el año 2000 con el propósito de satisfacer las más altas exigencias del empresario del siglo XXI. Cuenta con un sistema de reserva en línea donde se puede realizar el pago a través de tarjetas de crédito.
This is little more than 8 minutes from the airport but not too far. The airport taxi's will cost US$20 ish. It's in the US$50/night incuding breakfast and in room wifi.
I stayed there before... and if their web page required flash (as it does now) I probably wouldn't have stayed there.
They may have a cheaper airport transportation option. The hotel is located in a residential/business district of Pocitos. So you can walk to a lot of places.

I would recommend that you check out Pedro Figari. I think that it's near a street that has a casino, restaurants, and small shops. I think it's 5 to 10 minutes from the airport.

I will make a note of the hotels and websites. I can see myself needing a hotel near the airport in the future. LOL!

I think it would be more interested to get a hotel in Pocitos or Centro where you can have various activities, dining, etc during your stay (even if for one night). The airport is in the middle of nowhere....

That is a nice list of hotels in MONTEVIDEO. They are not close to the airport. It will be a US$25+ taxi ride from the airport to those hotels!

I am hearing good reviews on Uruguay and its environment. I hope we can visit there by the early quarter of 2009.

Now, now, did you actually read that website? I find it quite amusing, it should go in the category of what do spammers really know?If we look at this list of hotels that are supposedly close to the Montevideo, Uruguay (MVD) Airport we find that just 1 is in Uruguay!
The rest are in Argentina, although is close compared to say Miami, I can't imagine why someone looking for a hotel that is close would want one that is at very best 4 or 5 hours away!
The one hotel in Uruguay is listed as 18km away from the airport and is in downtown (Centro) Montevideo. There are plenty of hotels that are CLOSER. A taxi ride to Pocitos or Centro from the airport probably runs about US$25-$30.
However, I haven't found any that are CLOSE, ie: a couple dollar taxi ride from the airport.
Hotels nearest to Montevideo Carrasco Airport
NH Columbia ***** (in Montevideo, distanced approximately 18 km)
San Remo World Hotel *** (in San Clemente del Tuyu, distanced approximately 180 km)
Buenos Aires Base *** (in Buenos Aires, distanced approximately 200 km)
San Remo Resort Hotel ***
(in Santa Teresita, distanced approximately 200 km)

I can recommend Hosteria del Lago as I sometimes stay there myself. Its has very pleasant staff, is comfortable, overlooks a tranquil lake and is usually quiet. Its just a few minutes taxi ride from the airport and a short walk to the Geant superstore. It also has a pleasant old boy with a Nissan Sentra who is usually happy to drive you around for reasonable money.
My only gripe is its increases in room rates. You can probably get a better rate booking through an agency. The hotel has links with Danubio FC so sometimes the place gets overrun with visiting footballers... though the management usually puts them in the basement :-)
Patrick.
