| Can someone recommend a place to stay? My daughter and I will be in Montevideo on 8/15 for a week. Can someone suggest a good place to stay? We're definitely not the fancy hotel types. We don't need a lot. We'll have a rental car. But ideally, I'd like to be able to walk to interesting places to eat. Also, is my US driver's license enough or do I need that Americas international driver's license? brian |

| "expectations"
The reservation site where we bought the plane tickets had prices that ranged from $89 a night for the days inn in montevideo to around $270 or so a night for some nicer places. I'd probably like to keep it around $100 a night if that's possible. But I'd prefer to be in a good location in terms of things to see or food. So maybe more is needed. I'm willing to pay more for a better experience or convenient location, but not for a "nice" hotel. If there's no bugs and it's not obviously dirty, it's probably fine.I don't need a lot, but I'm thinking a hostel might be too rough. I'd prefer a traditional hotel type room with two beds and a bathroom. Beyond that, we don't need anything else. We'll never use the pool for example. And we'd be more likely to find a grocery store and pick up some things rather that use room service. We definitely want a low snoot factor. If I go to the front desk and ask where a grocery store is, I want to be treated like a human, not directed to the hotel restaurant with $20 hamburgers and a dress code. Safety is somewhat of a concern. I'm a big scary guy, but I'll have my 16yo daughter with me. Is that enough of a guideline? |

Used to be well within that price range and a good location in Pocitos. 2 blocks to the river front. Lots of places to eat nearby. Not sure if the prices have gone up much.Expert Page: Quick Tips for Getting Settled in Uruguay |
