Buenos Aires to Montevideo

Thank author of this post/commentDo the boats from Argentina dock in more than one location? I want to take whichever one docks closest to Montevideo. And is it possible to purchase ferry tickets on-line?

One dock in Buenos Aires. Destination can be:

1) Colonia, Uruguay

2) Colonia, Uruguay with Buequbus BUS to Montevideo

3) Montevideo, Uruguay

I've always done option #2 as it is cheaper than #2 and not much longer.

#3 get you into the port in the Old City of Montevideo.

I tried to bus tickets online and it was a big hassle. It wouldn't accept my card card info. Also be careful of what currency the $ reflects on their website. Now I go to their office.

The ones that Glen quotes are the Buquebus ferries. Most are rapid (50 mins to Colonia or 3 hours to MVD) but if you look at the timetables (link below) you'll see that there is also one very slow car/general ferry (3+ hours Bs As - Colonia) though its usually a bit cheaper.

I'll post a link to Seacat, a cheaper alternative to BQB on the Bs As - Colonia route in the following post.

Below is a link to the Seacat Colonia site which usually offers fares rather lower than those on offer from Lopez Mena (the owner of BQB.)

There used to be another operator on the Bs As - Colonia route (Colonia Express) but I haven't seen their boats around for a while.

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 202920485
