| Hi to all, I am interested in learning more about some good travel tips in Uruguay. Would you mind posting here some good details regarding this matter? I need to know some of the best locations to stay, like hotels and more. Also, I need to know some good spots where we can go shopping and can go out for a night party. Hope you can all help me out here. |

I can't offer advice about shopping and night life as I'm an elderly rural lifeform who hates shopping and is now too old to prefer night-clubbing to the joys of a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed. When I have to overnight in Montevideo I usually stay at the Ibis hotel near the Rambla and the Old City. It offers guests the usual services and modern comforts for something in the region of 65 U$S/night. If Uru-Swissness appeals to you, I can recommend Uruguay's oldest rural hotel... the Hotel Suizo just outside Nueva Helvecia in east Colonia departmento. Prices per night are about 75 U$S for adequate though not luxurious ensuite rooms but it has one of the best restaurants I've ever met as well as gorgeous gardens and a good outdoor pool/sauna. If your visit coincides with the annual Bierfest, you'll also have the opportunity to bop the night away... the Uru-Swiss enjoy a good party :-) |

I recommend the Sheraton in Punta Carretas. Comfortable and well located. If you avoid the rack rate and book online (maybe through Tripadvisor) you can truncate your cost. If you stay here you'll be adjoined by the shopping centre (same name as barrio) and you're close to Pocitos and the old town a short cab ride. |

You can find a couple in Carrasco. Belmont House and Le Biblo House (about USD 300 per night). Both are boutique - concepts.www.belmonthouse.com.uy www.lebiblo.com (sorry I donīt know how to put 2 relevant links at the bottom of the message!) Expert Page: Expat UY; Relocation and Expat Assitance |

We stayed at this "apart-hotel" in Pocitos, on Francisco Vidal, about two blocks from 21 Setiembe. It's a good location if you want to stay in the Pocitos/Pta Carretas area and if you want to be near Pocitos Beach. The room we had was fairly spacious and the breakfast was excellent and so complete that we rarely had to eat lunch while staying there. Nice, quiet street. It had been reco'd in the NY Times and had good reviews on Trip Advisor.Friends of mine have stayed at the Marti, another apart-hotel in Pocitos, and have liked it. |
