earphones for computer

I need to buy some earphones for my (MacBook Air) computer, for making calls to the US on Skype and/or Magic Jack.

I would like to get some good ones. Sound quality is very important in my business.

Any suggestions?

Take your MacBook to a few computer shops and test what they have. Headphones are a very individual-taste item so what I like you might not. Best to just test what's available yourself.

The MacBook Air does not have a sound-in (microphone) port, the only way to input sound is through the built-in microphone.

You can use the headphones for better hearing quality for you, but you are stuck with using the built-in mic so cannot improve the hearing quality for your listeners.

Varying the distance between your mouth and the microphone may help. The mic on my computer works better if I am further away. The mic is omnidirectional, but may work better from one direction than another. You could also try a putting a bit of foam rubber over the mic to diffuse your voice. That may (or may not) help and is worth a try.

On the other hand, you could spend some more money... It seems the audio port on the MBA supports the iPhone headphone/mic combination. You could try one of those. Maybe your local Apple store will let you try a set. And visit the Apple Support page link below for more info/options.

There is always a reason... and in this case because the link was https:// rather than http:// Anyway, the http:// redirects to the https:// so the link is below.

No idea why apple makes a public forum on a secure website...

Hi Charla,

I would recommend getting a headset or microphone that uses your USB port. It will have much better quality and you can have the microphone and headphone in one headset, or you can only use the USB port for the microphone.

For the most part, I bet most all headsets with USB ports will do.
