"Affiliate Programs"
Lucille, A very common way to make money online is from affiliates... That's how our site and even this site makes money. There are douche bag affiliate marketers out there, who are pushy and push crap products... But for the most part affiliate marketers are on the up and up. What is an affiliate? There are several types of affiliate programs... I'm going to give you a very generic basic overview of the 3 types of affiliates. A good way to think about affiliates is; affiliates refer sales. Pay Per Click The most common are Ads by Google... For example you see the ads at the top of this page from Google, when you click on them because you see an advertisement, the site owner gets paid a few pennies. This doesn't sound like much, but it can add up very quickly if you have a lot of traffic (people coming to your site). Pay Per Sale When a person or company has a product or service, they give commissions to other people who sell the product on their behalf. For example, we have a an Expat Cookbook (which as ebook) we sell for U$S 9.97... Any other site you see our cookbook on, the site owner is promoting it as our affiliate. For each sale the site owner makes, we give the site owner 50% of the proceeds... Another Example is, when someone books a flight through our Orbitz banner on our site and buys a travel package, we get a percentage of the sale. Pay Per Lead This is when a person or company pays for every person who contacts them from your site... Typically the lead they are paying for has to do a required action, like filling out their name and email address... Or a phone number... Or something else like that...
