A trip to the Ancel Office and a BIG Surprise! Yesterday I toddled down to the Ancel office to say goodbye to a 2 year contract I had with them. July 31st was supposed to be the last day and I didn't want it to automatically renew for another 2 years.I didn't want to wait to the last day and find out I was a day too late (I had that happened before and it took an extra pile of paperwork and a half hour of sitting there to resolve). I expected to fill out a pile of paperwork and pay the final bill. I hadn't pay the bill for a few months so I was prepared for a fairly hefty final bill. In Uruguay is is difficult to overpay or underpay your bills too much. Usually if you don't pay on time, and have two bills past the due date your service will be cut off. Overpaying doesn't seem to be an option at all, and for Antel/Ancel if you pay online, you are not given any choice of the amount to pay. For this particular Ancel contract they never bugged me about paying it, so I paid it online every few (or 4 or 5) months. Sometimes though it seemed the time had passed very quickly, but I didn't pay much attention. At the Ancel office it was quick and easy to finish the contract. One signature and I was ready to go out the door. But the clerk was studying the account and doing lots of calculations. I was starting to fear the final bill. After a while I notice at the top of her screen it said "Saldo 2520" so I figured that would be my final bill. She kept reviewing all the bills and payments. Giving her calculator a good work out! Then she told me it would be a little while for her to get to the bottom of it, but I had overpaid! Then she started printing and printing and printing and brought me a stack of bills. She put an x on the first one and said sign there.... and in the same place on each one. If you don't sign, you don't get your refund. Then she printed another sheet and told me to go to the cashier for my money. Before I left the desk she said I might get a huge bill and if so to come in and they'd take care of it, but I should get my usual bill for July. The cashier went through the stack of papers and counted out 2520 pesos for me. |
