I'm a rural resident without a phone line so until last year my only option was the Dedicado rural service which provides the slowest and most expensive internet connection in the world. Its a truly awful service run by lying bandits.

Last February Ancel improved their local telecoms tower which allowed me to access their 3G service. I now have a reliable 2 meg down 256 kb up for one eighth of the price of Dedicado. A friend who lives near P de E has recently bought a Moviestar USB modem and reports 3.5 meg down and 1.5 meg up.

Its still a far cry from the 40 meg pipe I had in the UK but its worth putting up with for the other benefits which life in the ROU provides :-)

Thank author of this post/comment"ADSL Availablity"

For ADSL availability it would be best to consult directly with Antel... first for the general area and then for a specific location, before you buy/rent. The same for wireless... borrow or try a prepaid one at a property BEFORE you rent/buy.

I'd strongly agree with Glen's comment.

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 2923174057
