I need to call the U.S. constantly for my work. I have Skype now, and the quality is very bad. I used it before, in a different location here, and it was fine. Does it depend on the quality of the internet connection? If so, how can I get a top notch internet connection? I also heard about Magic Jack, but forgot how that works. Any advice? I make 30-80 calls per day, and it is imperative that they are both cheap and high quality.
I have been using vbuzzer for a couple years. See link below.
I DO NOT use their software on my PC. I use a "SIP Adapter". Click on their link for VOIP Phone under the heading of "business".
I would get an adapter like the Linksys PAP2 or Linksys SPA1001. You connect your internet to the SIP adapter and then plug in 1 or 2 regular (or cordless) phones.
Your phone will then function like a normal telephone and you can pay a couple bucks a month for a phone number in the USA. Caller ID and everything works. You don't need a computer at all.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend vbuzzer without hesitation at this moment as I am having problem paying them for a new account I opened. I get an error message when I click the paypal link. Their customer service department said the problem was fixed. It's not fixed and they have ignored two additional messages.
There's hardly a point to having a phone line to call the USA when you can't give them money to make the calls! Their current rate to call to the USA is 1.5 US cents per minute.
vbuzzer has answered me and said the problem was fixed. (the second time they told me this). It was fixed this time and I was able to add funds to my account.
I also used the service to make a phone call of about an hour to California and as usual the quality was excellent. No background noise, no echo, not too much of a delay.
I use their service with a Washington, DC phone number. Any one can all that DC number and reach me here. I pay $25/year for the number and nothing for the calls.

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 2957
