The ROU will close down at 4.00pm today and at roughly 6.00pm there will either be the sound track from World War III with assorted explosions and fireworks followed by a week of celebrations and happy faces or the nation will retire into a pall of gloom. We take our state religion seriously :-)I will be watching the match at one of our sporting clubs here in Valdense with a few glasses of Jameson to steady myself as I lack a television set at home. Vamos Celestes!!! |
| "Great result! "
Proved right Patrick! :-) After the game we hopped in the car and drove to Arocena, Carassco to get a first hand feel of how Uruguayans celebrate a football victory. Fantastic! Couldn't even get the car near the main drag as it was full of people partying! |

A couple of seconds after the 3rd goal the ground shook and several windows cracked as a large amount of commercial explosives were detonated at the granite quarry near Nueva Helvecia. Fireworks were going off for the remainder of the evening, car horns blared, a scratch band assembled in the plaza and there was dancing in the streets :-)Not a bad result for one of the smallest nations in South America. I see that we've won the competition more often than lesser futbol nations like Brazil and Argentina :-) |
