Olympics
Olympics The Olympics is coming up again in 2008. If I am not mistaken I think it will be in Beijing. What sports do Uruguayans participate in?
That's a very interesting question. I don't think I recall the Uruguayans participating in the Olympics at all. I could be mistaken but I watch most of the Olympic games and I just don't recall anyone from Uruguay. Now it could be because they didn't win anything so they were not recognized. If anyone knows anything about this I would be interested in hearing about it.
Now that you asked, I can't recall what they could have participated in. I checked out the Olympic website and found that in 2000 Uruguay did participate and won a silver. It seems like the silver was won in mens cycling.
In Sidney 2000 , cyclist Milton Wynants gave Uruguay its first Olympic Medal ( SILVER) in 36 yrs, after finishing second in the 40 km by-points event ( spanish claimed the gold/russian got the bronze) . Uruguay 's last athlete to step to teh podium had been boxer Washington Rodriguez who took bronze in Tokyo 1964 games.

It is sad though, Uruguayans have so much potentials. Imagine, they've won the most sought after and elusive gold medal? The question is why didn't they participate in the latest Beijing Olympics? Guess that's the next big question.
It is a sad fact to know that potential is not the only thing that matters in Olympics, the government should also support their players financially and morally.
this is all due to a corrupt government, selfish pigs who only think of themselves......bastards
Hi Lee, if this is your opinion of the Uruguayan government, why are you still living in Uruguay? Such a kind of governmenmt would make it impossible for anybody to live there decently. Regards, Peter Stross
Well.. Peter... please view the messages carefully... the unregistered user "Lee" is posting from an IP address that is registered in Australia. "He" is probably here to stir things up as he seems to be the only one that has taken to using "swear" words in his posts... I deleted some of his other posts for that reason. I think someone can express their displeasure with something more effectively than the use of such words with a little bit of thought.
