Looking for a juicer and a blender

Thank author of this post/comment

I always buy fresh juices and smoothies at home in the US but there doesn't seem to be anywhere here that sells them. I think I'll miss them desperately so I'm thinking about trying to make them myself (could be dangerous- I burn microwave popcorn, can't cook pasta and toast almost always pops up black for me!)

Does anyone know where I can find a juicer (not a normal one, one that will juice apples and carrots etc) and a decent blender in Montevideo? are they really expensive?

Thank author of this post/commentAll the juicers I've seen here are the high speed kind that blow out your ears while they operate and have a wire mesh that is a pain to clean.

I bought an inexpensive hand juicer from Australia and it arrived in about a week via airmail with no customs intervention. You get a little exercise using it and it juices everything including wheatgrass.

The blenders sold here all seem hopeless. I consider them disposable and shop strictly by price... expecting to help fill a landfill several times a year with them. My first adventures with blenders here was with more expensive ones and it just cost more!

Thank author of this post/commentI miss my smoothies too! I bought a blender and it works ok but I have found that in general electronic stuff here is of poor quality and overpriced. Like much else in Uruguay I have a sneaking suspicion that they send all the low end stuff they can't sell up north down here and then the shops flog their wares at inflated prices!

Here's the site for Tienda Inglesa (if you click electronica in the left hand menu and then acesorios de cocina) they have a few juicers and blenders shown there complete with pictures and prices so you can get an idea of what's available.

Thank author of this post/commentTo Elaine 1 or Ireland.

I think it is true that many of the things that don't sell in the US, especially clothes from cheap stores, are sent down south for a second attempt to sell or unload them. I have noticed that when I was in Panama and Guatemala. Real junk clothes.

BTW, I looked at your blog and really liked your postings. Thanks!

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 2947190624
