Hi there,

We have planned to visit Salto (and Colonia del Sacramento, briefly)in March. Well take ferryboat to Colonia, then would like to take a bus to Salto. But cannot find any information on this type of service so far. Can anybody help us with advice, tips, etc. Is there any bus from Colonia to Salto...

We know theres a political problem involving INTERNATIONAL BRIDGES Argentina Uruguay.

Thanks a lot!

Thank author of this post/commentHere is a link for the bus terminal in Montevideo. I tried looking up Colonia to Salto and it showed no results...

You might try searching the website more and see if any of the bus companies have an email or phone

Getting Around in Salto

By Plane

There are no scheduled domestic flights except the stop in Montevideo from Punta del Este to Brazil, but Aeromas has charter flights to several destinations.

By Train

There are no passenger services within the country.

By Car

Roads in Uruguay are generally in a good condition and outside Montevideo it is rarely busy on the roads. Major roads connect all cities and towns along the coast and the interior. Renting a car is possible at the international airport in Montevideo, as well as downtown, and in other notable cities and towns, including Punta del Este, Colonia and a few places more to the north and interior. Traffic drives on the right and you need an international driving permit.

By Bus

Uruguay has an extensive bus network. The main companies include Copsa and Cot which serve all major cities and towns on at least a daily basis. On the Tres Cruces website you can find more information about bus companies, schedules and prices.

Thank author of this post/commentLili; There is bus service from Colonia to Salta. It didn't cross any bridges to Argentina.I took the trip in 2007 and doubt if it changed. You will go past/to the thermal springs at Dayman.

Thank author of this post/commentI find that for most routes you either have to start in Montevideo or transfer in Montevideo.

For example I lived up in Punta del Diablo for a few months and it seemed crazy that you can't take a bus from up there (from towns like Castillos or Rocha) to Salto. Instead you have to go all the way back down to Montevideo and then all the way back up, its just the way the routes work.

And whats this about a passenger train? I didn't think there were ANY trains in Uruguay?!

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 998827292
