Suggestions on organic farms, permaculture projects, medicinal plants gardens?

Thank author of this post/commentHello. I have just arrived in Montevideo. I am interesting in meeting and visiting organic farmers, permaculture projects and medicinal plant growing gardens during my 3 weeks stay.

Unfortunately I do not have much time but this is to lay the groundwork for a longer visit. Thank you for any suggestion and contacts you can offer. Will get a chip soon for cell phone contact.

Its really great to see people offering helpful information and contacts where they can, that's what this website is all about so thanks Bruce :)

When I first arrived in Uruguay I found the expat community to be very giving of their time, energy and resources...I hope that continues as the community grows

Thank author of this post/comment"Women's Cooperative"

In your Alternative Medicine Post I left a comment that likely should have been posted here.

There is a Women's Cooperative called 'Calmanana' in the Departamento of Canelones. They do a large number of things and have a 20year history, but, alas, no web site that I could find. Might be a good deed there for someone, hint, hint.

One of their main concentrations is in Aromatic and Medicinal Herbs! The following link provides contact information and the towns in which they operate. I'm planning to contact them as well, to see how I can help and also to get ideas for ex-pats living in Uruguay in the area of self sufficiency.

The web page doesn't say so, but they market large quantities of their goods and do custom packing for a company called "Campo Claro" that markets a wide line of food products for the Super Markets and Almacenes here.

Thank author of this post/comment"Found More Info"

Went to the market and bought a package of dried Cilantro, for my Mexican cooking. Found a package of 'Campo Claro' that had the address and phone number of the Calmanana Women's Coop. Address: Ruta 12, Km 89, Canelones. Telephone: 03105033.

Disfruta,

Chao

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 888544944
