Comment #104/04/10 12:51Rural east Colonia departmento | "ROU maps"
You would have thought that one and a half decades of military rule would have equipped us with excellent detailed maps of the ROU as the military are usually very keen on accurate mapping but its extraordinarily difficult to find a half-way accurate road map let alone a detailed topographical one. A kind neighbour gave me an accurate map of Colonia departmento for my birthday but I've no idea where she got it. |
| "Maps and info on Uruguay"
Tell me about it! Maps of Uruguay are atrocious! I just look a 2 weeks road trip and bought a collection of maps all as bad as each other! Once you get outside Montevideo/Punta del Este the maps are awful, have the other areas really not been mapped yet?!I have wandered past a specialist map shop downtown a few times (somewhere around Maldonaldo and Florida...its on a corner somewhere in that neighbourhood) but of course I forgot to go looking for it before I hit the road, assuming that petrol stations would sell decent maps - alas, I was wrong. However if you're doing a project on Uruguay I'm sure a map of teeny tiny rural roads is not what you're after. Try something like this link below which shows the borders of all 19 departments/provinces and their capital cities. The wikipedia page on Uruguay is also quite informative, try there. |
| I find my Spanish subject hard and difficult but at the same time it's really interesting. I love the expression and the way my teacher say his line. Love it. I will really try harder to learn that language. As for the map, I guess you could buy it from a bookstore or you could try the link given to you by Elaine because it might be able to help you with it. Good luck! |
| "Maps - the hard way, but available"
The military, except in Chile, does not seem to find publishing accurate home country maps to be a high priority in South America, and in some countries mapping for publication still is under miltary control. In Argentina, for example, to publish a map you must have the approval of the IGM (Instituto Geografico Militar) which may account for the great number of Bs As maps which ignore the north-on-top convention. (A quick fix is to locate the darsenas in Puerto Madero; currently yacht harbors, they are aligned within a few degrees of true north and south.) The officers in charge of mapping, though, seem to have no desire to confuse those who consult maps of neighboring countries. So, if you want a reasonably accurate 500, 000:1 scale (Sectional aeronautical chart scale) chart of Uruguay, all of it, just go to the IGM Argentina page and purchase or download the Buenos Aires chart, which carries good detail of Uruguay but is far too dense to be of use to pilots actually trying to visually navigate the complex Baires airspace. The visual chart currently offered for public sale by DINACIA, Uruguay, is 1, 000, 000:1 a bit difficult to distinguish fine points at that scale.Expert Page: Enjoy life a bit at Feligreta |
| "Maplandia"
Try this link to Maplandia. It uses Google Maps, but adds some extra detail including the Departmental/State or Province borders. Maybe it will be helpful. Also try searching, in Spanish, for the Departamento you wish and see what kind of maps they may have. There are also some Soil maps available from the Ministerio de Agricultura. |
