| criminal history I am seriously looking at Uruguay as a retirement possibility in three years. Herein lies a problem however. I was arrested in US in 85' for a drug related offense, served four months in a federal halfway house and a year and a half on probation. Since that time I received my second master's degree (MSW in social work) and I have worked for over the past twenty years as a drug counselor, therapist, hospital and program administrator for programs in mental health associated with prisons, jails, public and private. I am a bit fearful of the FBI check as my old criminal record will appear. Will this bar me from residency in the country? |

Your criminal records will be required for the residency paperwork. Taking into account that the crime was back in the eighties and that you have a good record during the last 20 years, I'm not sure if this will have an influence. I think you should get professional help in Uruguay in the Inmigration issues. It's the only way you can get more accurate information about your case. |
