Video: INTERNATIONAL REAL ESTATE
| Video: INTERNATIONAL REAL ESTATE Looking for a beautiful place to live and a profitable investment at the same time, we discovered a little known country, Uruguay, with its jewel beach community, Punta Del Este. Sophisticated yet of great natural beauty, it offers something for every life style and taste. The safety, the friendliness, the stable and democratic institutions, the clean air and water, the good weather are now precious assets for most of us. What are you waiting for: the Argentineans and brazilians have quietly descended upon with luxury condominiums and houses, polo fields, golf club. We went 5 minutes outside of town and are developing an enclosed high end community with over 35 one acre ocean view lots . Join us in this attractive opportunity. |
| "Gated Communities"
"enclosed high end community" is that a fancy name for a "gated community"?What I've found refreshing about Uruguay is that there are few gated communities and few people looking to move here appear to be looking for them! If you want to live in a gated compound full of others from your own country... why go to a foreign country? Why isolate yourself from the people and the culture? |
| "gated community"
Yes, indeed, why move half way 'round the world to live what you're already living at home? And why live apart from the locals? It's a little like moving to Rome and trying to avoid the Catholics, isn't it? |
| "Gated Communities in Uruguay -"
Lee - When I first read your opinion, my fist thought was "that is a great answer" because myself like you I don't want to be apart from the people and their culture, like I observed in Panama. But maybe that system may be good for other people who want to feel more safe in their own home, while going out everyday and meeting those people in the Streets not in the front yard. I live in Florida in a Gated community, not because of security, it just happened that the House we liked and could afford was in a Gated Subdivision, besides in Florida this is very common. I would like my Wife to experience Montevideo just like you guys, but the Gates and Walls can be good for many people especially in a new environment like Uruguay. I like the approach you and Bik have about how to live in a City but it's not possible in every City and I know from experience. But Montevideo IS and I'm very happy for that. |

Living as I do, I'm in no position to criticise other people who want to live in a gated community :-) We have a small gated development nearby in Nueva Helvecia which is entirely occupied by locals so its not just a "foreigner" thing. Even Bob Dylan didn't entirely disapprove... But I mean no harm nor put fault On anyone that lives in a vault |

The reason I prefer to live in a gated community is because I will be out of the country 2 months each year visiting grandchildren. This is the safest option I know. |
| "Gates Communities"
I've never seen a gated community in Uruguay so I can't comment directly on those. The ones I've seen in other places seemed to be fairly ineffective at offering real security, but did give an illusion of protection. Many of the apartment (condo) buildings in Montevideo, especially certain neighborhoods offer 24 hs a day doormen. They are by no means "security, " but do keep random people out. In one building that had a part-time door man, I found that random people never buzz the doorbell when he was on duty. When he was off duty it was not uncommon for people begging for clothes or food to buzz. I've never seen people who didn't seem to appropriate to be there wandering around in the apartment buildings. The apartment buildings don't seem to give the same illusion of isolation a gated community does. As I always say, you need to spend some time here to make the decision, you can't base it on what you read in forums, or experiences in other locations. |
