Retirement in Uruguay Sounds Sweet
| Retirement in Uruguay Sounds Sweet I had heard before from someone that Uruguay is considered one of the best places worldwide to retire to. This week I saw online a story from U.S. News & World Report published back in June titled 7 Affordable Places to Retire. Though I dont know if the countries were listed in any particular order, Uruguay was the third country mentioned. There was only a brief description about why each country made such a great place for retirement and they said this about Uruguay, You?ll be far removed from all the troubles of the rest of the world in this safe, stable, and welcoming country. | "Stop HEARING!"
and starting exploring and experiencing. Some find Uruguay great... some don't. You can read all you want but it will never match actually experiencing Uruguay...Spend a few months in the winter and summer... so you can see the bright sunny beaches and the cold (52F), windy (12+mph), rainy days like today too. |

The rain has been hammering down here for 36 hours now. The gale force winds are moving it horizontally across the fields and it is driving in under the front door. The camino to Colonia Valdense is a sea of mud and the tarmac road at the bottom of my hill is flooded. Its the price we pay for having a green and pleasant landscape but you won't see it mentioned on the tourist or ex-pat resettlement sites :-) |
| "Windy"
Windy is up to 17 mph now... you could do some surfing off the Pocitos Beach.... |
| "The fun has just begun!"
Now the wind is up to 35 mph and a large window that was cracked when I moved into my apartment has broken... it should be loads of fun to watch someone replace it. |

I hope it isn't south east facing or you'll be flooded out.I live on top of a small hill and though we are used to storms, I don't recall one which has driven heavy rain horizontally in just one direction for such a long period. Usually the wind direction changes after a few hours. My front door is set back three meters under a concrete roof but the rain is driving horizontally, getting in under the door, crossing the small porch, getting under the next door and flooding the hall. Its all hands to the mops and buckets :-) |
