| Breakfast Anyone know where I can get an "American" breakfast? Bacon, eggs, home fries, coffee. Ala Carte, since my wife only wants tea and toast (or a waffle). Buffets are too much food. The Manchester has waffles, we haven't tried them yet... |
| "New Coffee Shop"
There is a new coffee shop on Espana near the Umbu tree... why not stop in and see if that is something they can brew up.A while back I saw something where a bakery, I think on Sarmiento street was offering an "American Breakfast". Of course what an "American" means by that phrase and what an Uruguayan business means by the same phrase may be completely different. Expert Page: Quick Tips for Getting Settled in Uruguay |
| "Breakfast"
Thanks for the tips."Espana near the Umbu tree." Where is that? I haven't been here long enough to know where the Umbu tree is. (Or what an Umbu tree is, either.) I do know where Espana is. ;-) |
| "Bad spelling..."
Mabe it is because I spelled it wrong! It's really Ombu. Below I linked to a photo of it.It's in Pocitos about 5 blocks from the Rambla /river. Blvd Espana runs from down town to the Rambla in Pocitos. Maybe Alberto can give more insight on the stories about José Gervasio Artigas and the Ombu tree. Before I had a house and a kitchen, I spend a few hour at the American Bar in Valdense instructing the cooks in the basic principles of US and UK breakfasts. Most of the ingredients are available here (though pancetta isn't exactly bacon.)I'd suggest that you find a friendly cafe c/w cooking facilities near where you live and do likewise :-) |
