Garrapinada

Thank author of this post/commentDoes anyone know of a recipe for these? I got to try them a while back and loved the taste. I know it's basically peanuts, sugar, and vanilla but I wanted to try to make it home.

Thank author of this post/commentI haven't made it before but I was able to find a recipe for you. I goggled it and tried for the translated version. It doesn't seem like it is that hard to make. Good luck!

Ingredients:

2 sugar cups

1 water cup

2 cups of crude peanut (peanut, peanut, ) bare.

2 cditas. of extract (essence) of vanilla

Preparation:

To place together all in an old casserole,

ingredients of the garrapiņada one stick much.

To take it to the strong fire and to turn around constantly with a wood spoon

Important not to let never turn around.

When it begins to thicken they form the garrapiņadas ones.

To lower the fire and to gild them until obtaining the wished color.

To place them on an affluent source scattered

To let cool minutes because on the inside they are very hot.

Thank author of this post/commentWhat exactly is Garrapinada? The ingredients look tasty. Is it suppose to be a cookie or candy?

I also am looking for some good Uruguay recipes. I am planning on doing like an international cook off, so if anyone knows of any other international recipes please let me know.

So these are just sugar coated vanilla peanuts? That may be just stating the obvious, but that's kind of what I'm getting.

Instead of making them myself (which would have horrible consequences) where can I buy these? I can't say I've ever even heard of them before this.

Thank author of this post/commentAre these the chewy nuts that street vendors sell on those push trolley things around Montevideo? They look like they'd break your teeth! Are they actually nice?

Thank author of this post/commentGarrapiņada is mainly sugar coated peanuts. They are sold in the street all over Uruguay and Argentina, and they are really tasty, specially when recently made and still warm.

One of the most important secrets if you are planning on making garrapiņada is to use a copper pot. The rest of the ingredients are: 2 cups sugar, 1 cup water, 2 cups uncooked peanuts (they can be made also with other types of nuts like almond or hazelnut), and 2 small spoons vanilla extract. Just mix everything and cook with very high temperature until they start turning brown. Them just stop the fire and let them cool. Be careful as hot sugar is very dangerous.

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 2250612882
