| Blog post: 5 Ways to Charm Your Duck Hunter Want to impress a duck hunter? How about a Southern Duck Hunter? Just think, Los Gauchos and the country of Uruguay or Argentina and soon Peru.We write this today for a female audience. While we typically have a majority of males and a nice crowd of female wingshooters. In fact, many of our female wingshooters and waterfowlers can show the men a thing or 2 about hunting in Uruguay. But, I regress and back to the topic.

| "Bird shooting in Uruguay"
I've heard a lot about duck, dove and pigeon shooting, apparently its quite a popular activity. Yet I've still never met anyone who has tried it and I wanted to get a review before going. Has anyone gone duck hunting in Uruguay? I found this company, has anyone heard of them? or do you know one in your area? |

The ducks we have around here are the weird-looking Brazilian ones which look like a badly drawn cartoon duck (round head, long neck, long legs and tail feathers sticking up out of the middle of the back.) They are very fast on the ground and tend to run away and hide rather than fly away which can make them very difficult to shoot. The only "game bird" we have in abundance is the perdiz which closely resembles a small European partridge about the size of a snipe or woodcock. They are delicious but you need 2 or 3 of them for a satisfactory meal. I have seen pheasants up in Rio Negro depto but not down here in Colonia. We also have the tiny local doves as well as full sized pigeons but I only shoot what I can eat and don't like the taste of pigeon. |
| Well, I don't know about real live ducks, but I tried clay pigeon shooting once. Just once. It was really hard to aim, as the rifle was very heavy, but the kick back after pulling the trigger was immense. It definitely ensured that I did not manage to shoot a single clay pigeon as the barrel moved quite substantially each time. Needless to say I was the laughing stock of the shooting party ! |
