Hi, is this a US Dollar currency, $u , ? as i was skimming on the real estate websites of this country, i noticed that the prices of the properties were shown in two sets, US$ (US Dollar) and $u. I don't know if its a local currency or not, so i got confused. Are they the same? Thank you!. |

In real estate ads its pretty easy to tell... a rental for $15, 000 is really very likely to be $15, 000 pesos... and one for $600 is really likely to be in US dollars. Often the property prices (or rental) is in US Dollars and the Gasto Comunes in pesos.Jewelry might be another matter... $600 could be in dollars, fairly expensive, or $600 in pesos fairly cheap. In Uruguay, the legal symbol for Uruguayan Peso is $. So everywhere you see $ in an Uruguayan document, advertisement or web page, you should asume it's Uruguayan Pesos. When the doc is writen to be read mostly by foreigners, the writer would probably use $U or the international code UYU, to make it more clear. When the doc refers to dollars, the symbol used is never $, but one of these: US$, U$S, or USD. |
