Hey Paul, They may seem like simple straightforward questions but there's a lot of conditionals... 1) One bed apts in Punta Del Este: This place is VERY seasonal. In Summer it is absolutely over-run and in winter many parts can be like a total ghost town. Therefore obviously rental prices can fluctuate massively. Looking on BuscandoCasa.com is the best way to get CURRENT prices for rental properties in any area. 2) Renting in MVD: where do you consider "downtown"? Montevideo is a very small city, most people refer to Centro and Ciudad Vieja as "downtown" but really the centres are spread throughout Pocitos and Punta Carretas areas too. Renting in the city varies on many issues. Do you want furnished or unfurnished? Will you be able to sign a one year lease or are you only here for a a few months? The cheapest apartments are unfurnished and you must sign a one year lease and pay a 5 month security deposit. Fitting all those conditions you can rent a 1 bed apt in Centro for 6000-7000pesos ($250-$300) but then you also have to pay gastos comunes (comunal building costs. Prices go up in Pocitos and Punta Carretas areas, again you'll find current prices on BuscandoCasa.com 3) Renting rooms in Uruguay is VERY unusual. There isn't a sharing rental culture here like in cities in the US or Europe. Most Uruguayans live in their family homes until their 30s. It is considered a very strange concept to share with strangers like we do at home. There are a few rooms for rent from students sharing houses, I have found most of these (depending on condition on the place) to be in the us$200 mark. I wrote a blog post about finding accommodation in Montevideo, you may find it helpful, it also has a link to Buscando Casa: |
