Reed Roofing

Thank author of this post/commentI've seen on a number of real estate sites of homes with reed roofing. Since I don’t have any personal experience with that material for roofing, I’m wondering if it is a lot of maintenance, a fire hazard, a great place for mice to live or to what advantages this kind of roof has over asphalt or tile. Any of you ever live in a house with reed roofing?

Thank author of this post/commentI looked at one house with such a roof and had pretty much the same questions... I didn't ask the real estate agent that showed the property as I didn't he would have been the best source for reliable information on that topic... and never followed up... as I didn't have any interested in that particular property.

Wikipedia has a pretty good run down on the roofs...

Thank author of this post/commentThanks Lee, that was a nice comprehensive article on the subject. While the reed roof looks quaint, I'll stick with asphalt, tile or slate and let the birds have a go with the reed. Can you imagine having a legitimate need to get on the roof of your home and not be able to?
