| Prices of Homes What is the typical price of a home, let's say, 1, 200 hundred square feet? Nothing fancy. I'm curious how the real estate market compares to here in the US. |
| First you have to convert to square meters... then you have to decide on location. Rural property will be very compared compared to in the city of Montevideo. Property in Central or Cuidad Viejo is inespensive compared to Pocitos or Villa Barritz areas. Here is a link to a nice website with properties... looked at Ventas and 1, 200 sq ft will be a hit shy of 120 sq mts. |
| From the website it looks like it is just about equal to the prices here. I saw one for about $210, 000. In my area a nice 3BR 2BA home in a subdivision would run you about that much. |
| Next compare the property taxes... how much would they pay in your area? Real estate can get expensive here, but I think you have more choices on the lower end (and I don't think the web is the best place to search on the lower end). |

| Get your head into the area where you are looking to buy... for example in Uruguay everything is in sq meters. When you shift your mind from where you were to where you are looking, it will be much more sensible. Asking a real estate agent or owner how many sq ft something is in Uruguay with either: 1) not compute, or 2) put you in the realm of those looking to offer the priciest properties to the 'dumb yankee'. |
