Luxury Homes Uruguay
Luxury Homes UruguayWhat price range should I be expecting to pay for a luxury home in Uruguay? Is there a big price difference between Montevideo, Piraopolis and Punta del Este?I saw on International Living a 1000 sq foot apartment in Cuidad Vijea for $100, 0000 and it had a sea view. Is that a good deal? Is Cuidad Viejea a luxury neighborhood?
Barry- Prices vary dramaticly like anywhere in the world. A true Luxury property will be close to $1M and can easily be far more. There are some very nice things for 500K, about. Cuidad Vijea is the old part of the city, beautiful and VERY edgy. I love this part of town but wouldn't live there on a bet. Steve
By "Very edgy, " do you mean a high crime rate, and seedy with porn shops, prostitution, drugs and etc.
There are several people that regular attend our Sunday meetings that live in Cuidad Vieja and enjoy it.There and in the Tristan Navaja feria are the only place Americans have reported pickpockets (though our maid's daughter had her cell phone lifted from her backpack on the bus). The prostitution is found at the bus stops at night... though some encountered it and had no idea at the time. You often get a whiff of whackey weed smoke in the air anyplace in the city. Some say that all drugs are legal... but actually getting them isn't so you are likely to be hassled by the police. A couple years ago (not sure about now) the Puerto Mercado restaurants (at the port in Ciudad Viejo) were closed at night... supposedly because of safety (that is what they said at a hotel in Pocitos). It is a dangerous place to go for lunch because you will get WAY TOO MUCH food to eat and pay way too little for it. Hopefully some of those that live in Ciudad Vieja will pop in and tell us the good and the bad.
"It is a dangerous place to go for lunch because you will get WAY TOO MUCH food to eat and pay way too little for it." Why that's horrible, I must stay away from there!
So fvansan from pennsylvania and Mr. Lee from Pocitos are you trying to discourage tourists or immigrants not to stay in Uruguay? Is it "that" horrible that you are making these remarks, is it not true that United states of america is also a dangerous country? Is there a safe place these days? If Uruguay is what you yell us as it is then what place is good to lived in?
Ah.... do you know English.. here was a bit a sarcaism there... paying too little for too much food is hardly a terrorist warning!
"It is a dangerous place to go for lunch because you will get WAY TOO MUCH food to eat and pay way too little for it." Why that's horrible, I must stay away from there! - This people is an example of an ignorant person not carefully thinking out what he or she is trying to say and can't even express his views in English. Please people if you can't even express your thoughts perfectly well then don't do it at all. You completely know what would you for doing such remarks.
"It is a dangerous place to go for lunch because you will get WAY TOO MUCH food to eat and pay way too little for it."I think that is a view point that is quite on point and expressed brilliantly.
Gents! Thatīs the way it is world-wide, itīs dangerous everywhere, itīs the gap between rich and poor that does it, the poor donīt want to be poor (I donīt) so they go out and steal. In many places itīs far worse. Like Caracas or Rio, you donīt dare go out! Be very careful and watch your wallet! By the way, I think it is going to get worse in the future. Already the homes of the rich are fortresses.
In response to the question that this thread began with...yes prices vary greatly, as they do in any part of the world.Depending on the size of the house, when it was built, its condition, its exact location - its amazing the difference even a few blocks can make to the reputation of an area and therefore the price of a property. Punta del Este is probably THE most expensive place in Uruguay. It attracts the richest of the rich from the region and can sometime (if not often) feel like a competition for who can flaunt the most wealth (its Uruguay's equivalent on the Hamptons!). For a developing country that still has many people living at a substandard level, you wouldn't know it from looking at the extravagant multi-million dollar mansions in Punta del Este. No matter what figure I put here as a guideline it will only be a ballpark figure and will no doubt become redundant for other readers at another time looking at different areas. So I've said it before and I will say it again, Buscando Casa is a good website for getting a general idea of what is currently on the market, in what areas and at what prices...its a good place to start.
