We are currently looking for energetic individuals, couples and families who have bought property in Uruguay. We also looking for English speaking realtors. Our hit series takes viewers behind the scenes with a real estate agent to decide which international home is best for you! We’re looking for upbeat personalities and interesting stories. If this sounds like you, apply now!Send an e-mail to househunterscasting [at] leopardfilms [dot] com and we’ll send you additional information. |
| "Rose tinted glasses"
I spoke to the casting assistant for this show and it sounds like a great project to give people an insight into the life down here in Uruguay and what its like buying a property....I just hope they don't make the "international living" mistake and sell it as a "cheap" destination and try to convince people that Montevideo is just like some equivalent place in the US, because its not. There are so many great things about Uruguay - the climate is nice (though NOT tropical, there is definitely a winter but it is mild in comparison to what most countries up north are experiencing these days!), the atmosphere is very relaxed and laid back - very little stress, the east coast beaches are so beautiful, there is little/no risk of big natural disasters (hurricanes, earthquakes, tornados etc), and there is still a big emphasis on family and downtime and less on material goods - something long lost up north! THESE things (and many more) are the reasons Uruguay is great - NOT because it is "cheap" (which it is not), NOT because of its hot sunny weather (which isn't all year round so its highly misleading to push this aspect), NOT because of the generic things people try to sell about "South America". Uruguay is very different from other South American countries, and has a very distinct charm. I hope they can portray a truthful representation of what its like to buy and live here. Here is an excerpt from an episode about an American couple retiring to Panama: |
| "Gringos in Gringolandia"
I watched two episodes of that show and am not impressed. It seemed to be gringos going to a country and being show property from what seemed to be gringo real estate agents. Of course the properties had gringo prices, but the real estate agents talked about how typical Costa Rican or Panamanian the properties were. I don't think anything in the price ranges they were talking about (US$250, 000- $400, 000) are anything typical in those countries. The Real Estate agents also seemed to be the only ones giving information about the countries and places that people were looking. Their answers all seemed to be based exactly on what the buyers would want to hear and their preconceived notions of the places. Of course the Real Estate agents are probably not the place to get a balance view and I think the program would be great if they did a follow up after 2 and 4 years. Without the follow up, they program will be unbalanced and continue to perpetrate misconceptions about these places. In the program about Panama I was excited to see that the woman was learning to cook Panamanian food and had some dinner guests over to enjoy it; until I saw the dinner guests were other gringos! |
