direct tv uruguay

Direct TV that currently boasts of about 18 million subscribers is a direct broadcast satellite service that is based in El Segundo California and transmits digital satellite television and audio to most households in the United States, parts of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Launched in 1994, cable providers and Dish Network have emerged as the primary competitors. Is there any chance that it is soon expanding the transmission locations? How much does it cost to access the service in Uruguay?

Thank author of this post/commentAbout US$50/ month. The customer service is handled from Argentina and is absolutely insane. For 3 weeks I had no TV they changed me almost double for that period!

The technicians in Uruguay that actually do the installation are great. If you have trouble, email the CEO of DirecTV in the USA then you'll get help... but first look up his salary.

Unfortunately, we too also have got caught up in Indirect TV's almost fraudulence of taking monies from their customers and not delivering service.

Our story really focuses around customer service - or lack of it. Having instantly debited my card for the "installation" charge for Direct TV HD Plus they have failed to deliver the box or supply a date when we will receive a service. The frustrating thing is the false promises that they will call you back with information. seems to always be the third part at fault. In addition, my wife and I have made numerous calls to them and I have been on their live chat three times to be passed on the Argentina office.

Just give us a connection date Direct TV. is that too much?

There is simply no customer service. I don't see any consumer rights here. please advise otherwise. It seems Uruguay is desperate need of some good impartial consumer association and trading standards.

If you are using a UK card, why not lodge a formal complaint with the bank or card company in question? To be charged and then denied the agreed service is an offence under the UK's Consumer Credit Protection Act and various other UK laws and regulations shift liability for fraudulent charges onto the card company and/or bank and, as I've discovered with Dedicado, an international investigation with the risk of them losing their CC merchant status seems to concentrate their greedy little minds wonderfully. :-)

That's good to know as I did pay with UK card.

I think I'll wait another month just in case In-Direct TV decide to pull the bunny out of the hat before approaching the bank. I'll write a letter to Direct TV too just as backup.

Sorry to hear you have had a similar disservice with Dedicado.

All this makes me think of the Office of Fair Trading in the UK. Is there any similar org with teeth here in Uruguay that you know of that can be approached (for future reference)?

I was surprised to find that there are laws and a government agency tasked with defending the rights of consumers.

I have posted a link below to an El Pais article reporting on it.

While it lacks the teeth of the UK's Office of Fair Trading, Trading Standards, Consumer Credit Act, Banking Ombudsman etc, the lawyer I spoke to was very helpful.

Luckily Smile Bank and Visa International had already put the boot in so I was fortunate in not needing to take Dedicado to court here in the ROU.
