Dental work

Thank author of this post/commentCan someone give me an idea of the price range dentists charge for filling cavities, doing root canals and implants ? Will the prices vary significantly to Argentina's or between cities or the regions of the country ? If familiar with many people in the US near the Mexican border will often cross south to pay between 40 & 60 usd to fix cavities. Is it similar way down in Southern South America ?

Filling with resin in Montevideo was about 1, 000 pesos. Root canals about US$200. Not sure how much inflation has increased those prices.

There seemed to be fair consistency among dentists... I saw a price list from a dental association... but it pays to shop around and find a dentist you like...

Here is another message thread with a good recommendation...

Thanks. A Peruvian dentist practicing in Mexico told me that his cheapest fillings are around $30 usd in Lima and Tijuana next to the US border where many Gringos use such services. Outside of Lima the price dropped considerably to as low as $10 usd. He said it is much the same throughout Latin America, i.e. outside the larger cities it generally cost less.

All the countries in Latin America have their distinctive cultures, languages, food, etc... it's best to go and explore and no assume that what happens in Mexico, Peru, Argentina also happens the same way in Uruguay.

For example, in Costa Rica many businesses offer "special" prices for Gringos (ie: higher prices), while in Uruguay that practice is very uncommon, and in Paraguay some places have a "special" price for foreigners, which is actually lower than the price for locals (a IVA exemption).

I'm currently undergoing a deep root con a tooth which involves three visits. The official listed price for such a job is 1, 610 pesos (approx 87 U$S) and that is what Myrna my dentist is charging me.

Thanks to our current prosperity, Myrna has just bought herself an X-ray machine and being a new toy, she is keen to be trying it out. Thus my offending tooth has been X-rayed from 2 different angles free of charge :-)

As is often said, Uruguay isn't cheap these days. My cheapest dentist was Mr Hu in Loei City (Thailand) who used to charge 10 U$S for a simple filling. In my view, the best value for hi-tech complex dentistry is available in Hungary.

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 2759104192
