With the lousy wholesale milk prices only the bigger producers are staying in business. The dairy farm across the road from me sold off its stock several months ago, has evicted the workers and is currently ripping out all the hedges and trees to form one enormous field for soya production. Soya requires the use of some heavy-duty agro-chemicals and big machines so its not good news for the environment and rural employment. |
