Beach Living Are you coming to Uruguay for beach living? That gets into personal preferences too. Is beach living.... enjoying a view of the water... or swimming in the water?Punta Del Este and East (north) to Brasil is the Atlantic Ocean, Piraoplis, Atlantia, Montevideo, Colonia is all the Rio de la Plata. Though it has some characteristics of an ocean, ie: salty, waves, tide at least in Montevideo, not sure about Colonia. The tourist season in Punta del Este is very short... end of Dec through Feb. Though swimming is probably good through March. In Montevideo the water often has an unpleasant color, though I am told it is dirt not pollution. Uruguay gets COLD in the winter down to 32F though I've never seen frost. Now, being born in Michigan, 32F doesn't sound that cold for winter... but if you are in a place with no heat and marginal insulation it's gonna feel really COLD! It's also really cold for beach weather. For the beach, I'd choose Brasil or Colombia. For a great water view there, not that is something may find in Uruguay. Residency takes as long as it takes. Could be 3 months... could be 3 years... could be what ever it is. If you and a friend apply on the same day, yours could be done months or years different from his. It's not a big deal because you can stay there or not during the process. The 90 day entry stamp no longer applies and you have to get a different paper during the process. If you are planning to live in Montevideo... enjoy life without a car! Now with the all "negativity" presented here... it should be said that I think Uruguay is a nice place to live. It's certainly worth visiting for an extended period of time to see how you connect with it. Expert Page: Quick Tips for Getting Settled in Uruguay |
