New taxes

Thank author of this post/commentAs far as I can gather the new tax regime wrt overseas income and capital comes into force on 1st January.

For foreign residents (that is non-Uru-citizens who stay within the ROU for more than 181 days per year) the new regime is this...

Capital taxes on foreign assets (IP) = none.

Income taxes on foreign income (IRPF.) Any foreign income which has not been taxed at 12% or more and which comes from certain types of investments like bonds, dividends or bank deposit interest will be taxable at 12%. The DGI offers a tax free allowance on the first 3 thousand and something dollars per person but I'm still unsure about how they will view the larger tax free allowances offered by various foreign governments. I have no foreign earned income so I haven't researched how it will be viewed.

As far as I can tell, overseas income from property rents and pensions are deemed to have already suffered overseas tax and will not be liable to Uruguayan IRPF.

Income and capital taxes on income and capital invested within the ROU remain the same.

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 979197813
