Here in Colonia Valdense the sky filled with noisy US helicopters and the army turned out to guard the presidential motorcade on its way from Montevideo to the prez's country retreat at Anchorena.

We were spared the passage of Mr Bush as he flew in one of the many helicopters but Mrs Bush travelled by car.

About 200 people from C Valdense turned out to view the passing motorcade which comprised a police car, the limo and for reasons unexplained, several fire engines.

As the motorcade approached, most of the crowd turned its backs until it had passed. Nothing was thrown and no slogans were shouted. I was most impressed by the conduct of my new neighbours :-)
