What are the price ranges for a house on the beach? I'm sure it's absolutely lovely. We bums love to be as close to the sand at all times.

I checked Buscandocasa.com and they have houses in Piralopis starting at US$30, 000 and plenty over US$100, 000.

Right above where you type the message has two lines.. for web link and for link title. Put the link in the web link line and the name of the site under link title. That is where I put yours and it accepted it. I think it rejects most web addresses in the messages to stop the spammers.

It doesn't seem like the houses are very expensive. $30, 000 is a great deal. Even 100, 000 isn't too bad as long as it is in a good location and a decent amount of land with it.

With very few exceptions, you cant buy a house on the beach. The beach usually has a road that runs alongside it and the space between it and the ocean is considered public property. You buy on the other side of the road.

When you come to Piriapolis from Montevideo and take the exit from the main highway, after a while you'll come to a curve which is when you 'connect' with the coast. You'll immediately see the mountain, (and if you've got real good eyes, you'll see Steve's place), a few miles away.

That entire stretch of road is coast, waterfront and there are lots and lots of homes there for sale--and a lot more lots to build your own teepee. Not sure what those lots are worth, but on the mountain, they start at $40K. So I reckon the waterfront lots are gonna be more.. Put a house on the lot and you've got to be over $100K. But the Piriapolis area is full of surprises, so who knows. Maybe you get lucky.

There are number of beautiful towns along that road, as it runs to Piriapolis and through Piriapolis and out east. The ones that stick out in my mind are Playa Hermosa, Punta Fria and Punta Colorado.

We chose to live on top of the mountain because we couldn't make up our minds which we liked better. This way, we get to to see them all every day.

Times aren't like they used to be. If you go by Piria, out Punta Colorado way (about a klick or so), you'll see where the fishermen live. Betcha those little houses cost them $500 or less.. and the drive to work is about 20m.

And now a question for anyone who reads this... Which mystery celebrity really bought the mountain just outside Piriapolis? Last year, local talk was Bruce Willis. This year they say it's Sean Connery. Whoever he is, he did NOT buy in Punta del Este.. so he's definitely not your average bear. What a view of the ocean he has.

Looking for a house or apartment to rent. We are two swedish gals/women coming to Argentina in dec and want to spend a month on the beach in Uruguay from dec 20 until jan 25. Have read about Piriapolis and it seems like he right place for us. An apartment or a small house as cloose as possible to the beach.

Crossing my fingers for some answers.

A friend of ours has a 2 bedroom apartment for rent during the period you're looking for. It's not 2 blocks from the beach. It's a 15 minute walk. The link should be above or below this answer.
