| Coconut Milk Although Coconut Milk is quite pricey here, they do have dried unsweetened coconut which is easy to make the milk from. Shame they don't have a good source of fresh coconuts. At least I haven't been able to find them. Anyone know a source? |

The coconuts are imported... hence a poor selection and high price. The same for mangos. I gave up on mangos after trying two or three... very pricey and not very good. Coconuts can range from ok to rotten. However, Paraguay imports Brazilian mangos and coconuts and they are easily available, reasonably priced and delicious. So, it must have more to do with import regulations, taxes and customer demand than distance. Expert Page: Quick Tips for Getting Settled in Uruguay |

I reckon its down to our quaint systems of importation and distribution as well as extreme food conservatism. On the occasions when I've visited Rocha I found a fair selection of coconuts but here in Colonia, they can't be got for love or money. My neighbour Sergio visited London and Italy last July. When I asked him what he had enjoyed most about his trip, his instant reply was "take-aways" :-) |

My daughter is very allergic to dairy so we use a lot of coconut milk & creme. We did not find it in Uruguay at the mercados. I even thought I could start a business until a Uruguan business man pointed out that I should consider Brazil. I decline. I even have developed killer recipes for butterscotch ice cream substituting coconut creme for dairy. So I googled 'buying coconut milk from Brazil" and came up with a website. Milk, no cream. So I take it that Uruguay might frown on a shipment of this product from Brazil? I mean, there must be a minimum amount like a case that is acceptable. How does one find out? Ettica International Trade is a source as is Alibaba. |
