Missing Person, Can you help?

Thank author of this post/commentAs any expat (or local!) will testify, Uruguay is a very small place, where it sometimes feels like everybody knows everybody - especially if you're a foreigner.

I saw this notice today and thought maybe for once that small town aspect of everybody knowing everything may be an advantage to these people looking for their son/brother/friend.

"Roberto Yaryura is a 39 year old stockbroker, US citizen with Canadian/Argentine background, dark hair and tanned skin. He had been living in Buenos Aires for the last few years and speaks fluent Spanish.

He was last known to take a ferry (el buquebus) from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Colonia del Sacrimento, in Uruguay, along the Rio de la Plata on September 19th, 2009. He has not been seen or heard from since.

His plan was to either hitchhike or catch a bus along Route #1 to Montevideo and then perhaps on to Punta del Este. His itinerary was then to head north, with his final destination to be Florianopolis, Brazil.

Roberto has a very unique tattoo on his right shoulder of a gold pyramid with the eye of god at its apex. Behind the pyramid is a setting red sun and the base of the pyramid sits in a pool of water with greenish blue waves."

As we all know, Uruguay is quite a safe place, and I have known many friends to travel and even hitchhike alone here with no problems so I hope he turns up safely. In today's age of easy travel and fast communication people take adventures all the time. I moved here totally alone with no contacts and I can only imagine the helplessness my family and friends would have felt if they lost contact with me so maybe posting this will play my part to help.

If you have seen or heard anything that may help his family or friends you can contact them through this link. There are also pictures of Roberto on this page:

Thank author of this post/comment"Sometimes..."

Missing people aren't missing at all. Sometimes missing people know right where they are and they are right where they want to be! Sometimes the missing people don't want to found by those who think they are missing! I'm not speaking about criminals on the run, but just normal people that are tried of a situation.

Normal people that are being stalked by someone. The internet has been known to be used by stalkers to try and track people down.

Let's hope this missing person is in good health and reunites with those looking for him soon.

I would suggest if anyone has information on this person they provide it to the U.S. Embassy with a request that it be passed on to his relatives.

Thank author of this post/comment"Paranoia"

That is some pretty intense stalking so!

Maybe you're right, I would of course prefer that he is safe and that he is in fact in touch with his family...but I would rather "err on the side of caution" as they say, just in case it is genuinely his loved ones looking for him and something did genuinely happen to him and not just some nutcase looking to track him down. Maybe thats naivety, who knows.

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 3080566929
