It is common for people to drink the water. In the apartment buildings there is a large tank and the city requires that it be cleaned with chlorine once a year.
I use a water filter.
You can get bottled water delivered in 5 gallon jugs with a dispenser if you wish.
In restaurants if you ask for water, you'll get carbonated water. If you ask for water sin gas, you'll get bottled water. If you ask for water from the tap you'll get that and probably for free.
I've been living here for 9 months, first in Ciudad Vieja and now in Parque Rodo and I have always drank water from the tap, its appears most other people do too. However in certain areas of the city and in many rural areas people prefer bottled water.
Bottled water is pretty cheap here so its not too hard if you choose not to drink the tap water.

The water from the tap is ok, so far. But if your building has a tank, it needs to be keept in good condition, and nothing OSE can do about it. Is up to the building maintenance. But i believe If you take a sample to OSE they may make a analisys of it. Ose is in Calle Constituyente and Lorenzo Carnelli.
Otherwise Agua Salus is quite good if you like bottled..so good that Evian bought a few years ago.
