Zoo
| Zoo The Montevideo zoo boasts some marvelous animals among them Canarian lions. These lions are extinct, but the zoo is running out of room and may be able to reintroduce them to the wild. |
| The Montevideo Zoo (on Rivera, a short walk from Montevideo Shopping) is not real big, but a nice way to spend a sunny afternoon. Entrance is just 20 pesos (up from 10 a few years ago). |
| Sweet angel: Why does the link you provide us requires us to register in order to see the content of that lame site first. I believe that is what you called "bad marketing" because if you want to boast or advertise your business then why give hassle to the web visitor to register on their site? LAAAME! terese: You want a picture of a turtle? Why don't you try searching it yourself on Google or Yahoo rather than wasting your time and everyone's time with your dumb comment! |
| I couldn't agree with you any better Carana. What kind of a tourism and marketing websites allow the common and free users that requires the viewers to sign up before seeing its content. That is why there are search engines such as Google and Yahoo for you to exploit. Just identify what kind of turtle do you want to see and hit search or images and you can finally see the image of a turtle. |
| I've been meaning to visit the zoo for a while now but I always forget! Their website looks very promising...they have an African area, a South American area, they have hippos, elephants, tropical birds, reptiles, lions, jaguars, leopards and kangaroos. As Paul says its not too far out of the city, its on Avenida Gral Rivera and Buxareo and all of these buses go there- 60 - 71 - 141 - 142 - 144 - 191 - 328 - 329 - 468 - 526 - 7E7 R - D11 - DM1 The website says its open Wednesday to Sunday from 9am - 7pm, entrance fee is 20pesos for adults but free for children under 12 or adults over 70...it also says its free entry on Wednesdays. |
| It's just around the corner from Shopping Montevideo on Rivera... maybe a 10 min walk. |
| "Villa Dolores Zoo"
That Intendencia has rearranged their website so that link doesn't work anymore. Here is another link with some information. |
| "Visiting the Zoo in Uruguay"
I recently went to Montevideo's Villa Dolores Zoo and found it very upsetting. The enclosures are all concrete, little or no vegetation, they are poorly maintained and the animals look truly miserable :(Two places to visit instead are Piriapolis Zoo which is more open plan and better maintained. This zoo is built in to the Pan de Azucar hill, 6 km north of Piriápolis on Route 37. The other - Parque Lecoq - is in the other direction (to the west). It is near Santiago Vasquez, at the border of Montevideo and San José. I have never been to either but I have heard they are much more enjoyable than Montevideo's Villa Dolores Zoo. Here is a video of the sub-standard enclosures at this zoo, it is enough to put anybody off :( |
| "lopez"
IS THERE AN ORGANIZATION THAT REVIEWS A ZOO IN THE CONTEST OF HELPING BETTER THE FACILITIES, OR A LOCAL OGANIZATION THAT WORK WITH THE PUBLIC AND THE AUTHORITIES TO REFURBISH VILLA DOLORES.I WAS THERE IN NOVEMBER 2010 AND IT IS SAD , VERY SAD. |
