Moving to Uruguay in January - looking for furnished apartment for 3 months

Thank author of this post/commentHello,

I'm moving to Uruguay in January with 2 other adults. We are looking for a 2 bedroom furnished apartment in Pocitos or Punta Carretas.

I have done a lot of research, but haven't found a place to stay yet. Ideally, our rent would start around January 17, 2012.

If you have any thoughts of finding a place to stay or own a place to stay, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, If there are any expatriate meet-ups in Montevideo, that information would be great as well to help in building a great local network of friends.

Thanks,

Matt

Thank author of this post/comment"Meetings"

There are two weekly meetings listed at the top of the page here, the Sunday one has been ongoing for six years. Christmas this year lands on a Sunday, so that will be the first Sunday without a meeting.

Maybe something can be planed for the beach that day, a block from Fellini's?

Are you looking for a 3, 6, or 12 month lease on a place?

Thank author of this post/comment"Looking for a 3-month"

Hey Glen,

Thanks for the info. I'm excited about meeting everyone down there.

We're looking at a 3-month place. At the end of 3 months, we're going to have to renew the tourist visa for another 3 months, which means we might want to find a different place to stay, or if we like the first place enough, we could stay there again.

Thank author of this post/comment"Visa Renewal"

One time per entry you can renew the visa at immigration for about 15 bucks. So you can easily stay 6 months... longer requires a trip somewhere... even a day trip to Buenos Aires.

Thank author of this post/comment"Great info!"

Ohh wow, thanks for the information. I was under the impression that I could stay for 3 months and had to leave the country for a day and come back to stay for another three months.

I think we're still planning on only staying in three month intervals, but that changes things.

For now, we're still looking for a 3 month rent in a furnished apartment, but I'll write if things change. Thanks!

Thank author of this post/comment"Adjectives"

I love all your adjectives... any time... incredible.. free this... free that (of course non of it is free, but is included in the price).

This website is a community and there are couple of "unique" features about it that makes it say different other venues.

- Unlike classified ads you can use as many words as you want.

- Unlike TV or other places, you don't need to do something exciting (ie: lots of adjectives to stand out)

There are a couple of things that many participations are looking for here:

- Information

- Short term rentals

So, you have a wonderful resource for the community... but I think you lack a few details... most specific location (Oceanfront would mean North of Punta del Este, but I think you are really on the river front in Montevideo). Size... 1 bedroom, studio, 3 bedroom? Price? I realize that can be touchy as it could vary with season and when someone reads this in 6 months or a year... it could be way different.

I think the bottom line though is that someone should have enough information that they don't have to spend their time (or yours) emailing, if the apartment won't meet their needs.

We also encourage those with stuff to sell or services to participate a bit and share interesting and useful information... not just post adjective fulled or information ads.

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 2368630197
