Americans in Montevideo

I'm getting ready for a whirlwind tour of South America. Where are the places in Montevideo that Americans hang out?

You won't be having problems looking for expats in this city.

What kind of social activities are you up to? If you're just looking to meet people that could help you out on your stay.

Last November I was in the same situation as you, but luckily there is such community in the city.

There are weekly meetings for expats, every Sunday at the Fellini Ristobarreto in the barrio of Pocitos.

Everybody is welcome, expats and tourist,

Thank author of this post/comment"Meeting locals and expats"

Hey Brad,

If you're doing a whirlwind tour I highly recommend getting involved in Couchsurfing. It is an international travel community where people host travelers, show them around, meet them for drinks/coffee etc. Its a great way to meet locals and see a unique side to each place you visit (which is usually quite a challenge on fast/passing-through style trips).

Here is the website link below, you have to register as a user and then join the groups for the places you are going. You can read all the conversation threads and get in touch with individuals you think you would get along with.

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 773821646
