Dengue Alert Level Lowers

Thank author of this post/commentAlthough there were 11 suspected cases being tested the Public Health Minister Maria Julia Numoz said Wednesday they tested negative.

This has meant that the dengue flu alert level has been lowered which is a blessing. Two weeks ago the alert had been raised to Phase 1 after tests showed a patient from Salto had contracted the disease.

This disease has killed many in Paraguay, Argentin and Brazil and it was feared that it was about to spread to Uruguay. These new tests have lowered the threat of the spread of the hemorrhagi variant of the denegue cases.

Good news for the Uruguayans.

Thank author of this post/commentIt is important to note that Paraguay, Brazil and parts of Argentina are North of Uruguay (and more tropical). Salto is also in the Northern areaof Uruguay and warmer than Montevideo.

Taking that into account, I suspect the risk for most Uruguayan's is quite low.

Thank author of this post/commentWell it's good to know that the risk is low but even though these other areas are further north it's still a risk because of travel these days.

Someone could have a disease and not be aware of it when they get on a plane and the disease could spread to all the people in the plane.

In my opinion it is always good to know when something is spreading so that everyone can take precautions with it.

Thank author of this post/commentIt is a good thing that is it lowered. The flu virus is so easy to transmit. One would hope that someone with it wouldn't feel the need to get on a plane with hundreds of others and spread the disease.

Miss usagigirl, it is a good thing that it is lowered. Dengue is not the kind of flu that can be transmitted via air. The illness is caused by mosquitoes, that is why it is called as "Dengue" and not your ordinary flu. Even so, the country's health department should not take Dengue more lightly now. A campaign should now be implemented fighting and eradicating the menace of mosquitoes. Dengue has also killed a lot of people all over the world and that includes Asia as well, but they have address this immediately making dengue fatalities reduce to zero.

Actually usagigirl might be referring to the fear that an infected person boarding the plane might get bit by a mosquito in the new country where he boarded off and the cycle begins a new. It is not an issue if the country is tropical or not, the problem is the evolving menace brought up by these mosquitoes.
