Caring for the elderly

Thank author of this post/commentAnnette brought up in another message about care for the elderly. I believe that "old folks homes" or "nursing homes" are called "residencials".

I see them when I walk about town, but don't have any detailed information.

Thank author of this post/comment""Geriatrico" is"

the perhaps too frank collective description of these residences. All sorts of promotional wordings appear on their signs. One in the Prado bills itsef as a "hotel de la tercera edad." While many may call themselves "residenciales" the term actually can refer to any cross between a hotel and a"pension."

Thank author of this post/comment"Colonia Valdense"

Being the self-styled "Garden City of Uruguay" C. Valdense (pop 4200) now has 8 old folks homes ranging from the affordable Evangelico (a traditional sort of OFH) to edge-of-town self-contained bungalows with 24/7 carers to the downright luxurious. A lot of the residents seem to come from Buenos Aires.

The good availability of qualified care workers at reasonable rates is one of the things that first attracted me to Valdense as both my parents needed care during each of their last 5 years which at UK prices, very nearly bankrupted me. Even an average quality OFH in the UK costs about a thousand U$S a week and 24/7 care itro 2.5k U$S.

Thank author of this post/comment"Eastern Coast "Residences""

Thankyou so much for taking this up and all your Infos - one lives in the hope that one will one day just topple over, but only the lucky ones go that way. How reassuring that that there are some options. Does anyone know the situation farther up the east coast?

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 1343425527
