cafe/library to get work done?
| cafe/library to get work done? Hi everyone, I'm a student volunteering in Montevideo until mid-June, and I have regular work that needs to be done via the Internet. I'm currently living in a hostel in Pocitos, which has wifi, but isn't very conducive to getting a lot of work done. Does anyone know of a library nearby with free/cheap wifi, or the sort of laid back cafe that doesn't mind if you buy one cup of tea and work for three hours? I've tried Jenny at the corner of Espana and the Rambla, but it was pretty crowded. Thanks! |
| "Shoppings?"
Emma, I'm not completely sure cause when I'm out of home or work I'm not precisely longing to connect. But I think the Shoppings have wifi. Does anyone know? |
| "Free WiFi"
Montevideo and Punta Carettas Shopping both have free wifi. Punta Carattas probably is less crowded.Atlantico Resturant on the Rambla offers wifi. Not sure if they have reopened after their remodeling. Not sure about how long they will let you stay. Rocco's bar (21 de Setiembre y Franciso Vidal) has free wifi. Again, not sure how long you can hang out... but shoot for when they are not busy. A fair number of places offer free wifi, keep your eye out for little plaques.. or ask. Maybe if you eat some meals regularly, they'll be more open. |
| "Costa Azul"
Costa Azul the one on the corner of Buxaero and Benito Blanco has a sign sayiing wifi and I saw someone in there with a laptop. Don't know about the other locations. |
| "Quiet Spots"
Shirley once sent me this great little google map marking all the free wifi access points in the city, I asked her to dig it out for you so maybe she'll post it here if she can find it.The Sweet House on Sarmiento (think its on the corner with Franzini) is quiet upstairs and they have plenty of space so they shouldn't mind u stayin a while (also they have a HUGE selection of pastries!). There's also the El Beso cafe in La Pasionaria in Ciudad Vieja (Reconquista and Juan Carlos Gomez). They do great food and have a very chilled out atmosphere. Its usually rather quiet and the owner is lovely so just ask her if she would mind u working there for a while. Maybe you could try the Washington Library at the US/Uruguay Alianza on Paraguay (and Soriano?) |
| "Map of Wifi Hotspots in Uruguay"
Found it! (It wasn't in an e-mail; it was something I had posted on Facebook. It was originally from Santiago the architect.) |
| "The queen of random helpful links!"
Thanks Shirley! I knew you'd dig it out of the dark depths :) |
| "Wifi Ice Cream"
The ice cream shop on the corner of Miguel Barreiro and Benito Blanco offers wifi... they seem to be pretty empty during the day... there is also a barber shop within a block or two on Benito Blanco that has a wifi sign in the window.Have you had any luck finding a place with a suitable environment? |
| "thanks!"
I'm actually at McDonald's right now! Not someplace I would ever think of as "a nice place to go work" at home, but here it is! I'll be sure to check out some of these suggestions too. Thanks a lot! |
