Spanish Tutoring or Classes???
Spanish Tutoring or Classes??? Is there somewhere in Montevideo to take Spanish classes? Not those classes that include the trip etc, but for people living in Uruguay. We will be in Montevideo Jan 23rd through Feb 19th. May be moving permanently after we retire soon. I need help learning Spanish. Thanks, Joy Warren
Stop by the Expat Meeting at Old Maz (click link for details) on Sunday, January 24th.There should be some people there that can give you some good suggestions... and maybe even an Uruguayan or two that would give private lessons if you wanted that. There are at least 2 schools that teach Spanish, but I don't have their contact info.
Hey, There is a great school that gives private or small group classes. If you go on my site there is a link to the school on the right hand side. I would type it in right now, but I don't know it off-hand!! And pls tell them that I say hello! Ciao, Dominic
Here's the link from Dominic's blog...The price is listed as US$95 for 1 week @ 4 hrs a day... and "special rates for residents"
If I were you, I would first acquaint myself with the basics of the language so that when I set foot in Montevideo, it will not be much hassle. Have you tried the online classes? Most of them come with a kit that you can follow on your own instead of actualy going to class. Spanish is so easy a language!
A little preparation is always helpful, some of the audio sets are very good. I used Michel Thomas and I've spoken to many people who found the Rosetta Stone program good. There's quite a few places to learn Spanish in Montevideo. Like Lee said you can go along to the expat meeting and there are local Uruguayans there who offer private lessons, there are also expats with their own experiences who could make recommendations. There's also a language institute on Avenida Brasil in Pocitos, I think its called International House. They do group and private Spanish classes. I took some classes at Academia Uruguay in Ciudad Vieja when I first arrived and I thought it was a very good school, its expensive though. Avoid La Herradura, I've heard many bad stories about them.
