| Girl Scouts In Uruguay?Hi!Our Girl Scout Troop in Florida is trying to learn all about Girl Scouts in Uruguay for International Thinking Day. Can anyone tell us if Girl Scouts in Uruguay sell cookies, like we do in the U.S.? If they sell cookies, what flavors? Thanks for your help. I've got 19 9-year-olds hoping for answers! I can't say anything about whether the girl scouts or their cookies are here... someone else will have to answer that...But I lived here for years and believed that the cookie monster must live in Uruguay and gobble up any cookies before they were made available to the public... it seemed that there was nothing even slightly resembling a cookie available here. Just crackers. Anything and everything dry and tasteless. But anything a little sweet and chewy was simply not to be found. It was just as well because I try not to eat much of that... but every so often desire overtakes will power! The first time a friend from the USA visited we went to Tienda Ingeles and he made a bee line to the freshly baked Coco and Oat Meal Cookies! Sweet and chewy! The trick is obviously to look in the bakery and not at all the packaged crackers... unless you want (or are) crackers! |

Hi Cay, I've never been a girl scout myself but I managed to dig up some info for you. There is the AGSU (Asociación Guías Scout del Uruguay, ie The Girl Scout Association of Uruguay) and also the MSU (Movimiento Scout del Uruguay, The Uruguay Scout Movement). The MSU seem to have a pretty good website (at the link below) so you could try send them an email and see what happens (msu@msu.edu.uy). As far as I know there may also be a branch of the American Boy Scouts in Montevideo so if you contact their headquarters in the US you may be able to make contact with them, I haven't seen if they have anything online. I'd say The British School or The American School would have contacts with the Scouts and Guides here, and all the staff there speak English so if you don't speak Spanish you could try get answers that way. Following what has been said above I highly doubt that Scouts here sell cookies, although they probably do other types of funding events that could be really interesting for your scouts to learn about. Good luck! |
