Christmas Presents

Thank author of this post/comment"Christmas time is here by golly, time for mistletoe and holly, time to fill the cup and don't say 'when...'" -Tom Lehrer

Yes, it's Christmas, our first Christmas here.

I have a question about presents. Our building has a doorman/concierge/guard person, do we give him a present for Christmas and, if so, what is traditional/customary? Gift basket? Cash? We have only been here three months and will be here for three more, if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

You will see they get a ton of gift baskets, all about the same... so give cash. Their salary is not large (look at the gastos comunes report and you'll see exactly what they earn). Most work in two different buildings.

We don't see the gastos comunes report, we are on a short-term rental which covers everything except gas and electricity. This is a small building with 12 units and no special amenities other than an elevator.

Any suggestions on what would be a fair amount?

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 1962091647
