New toys from toy chest -

Do many people own their own boats in Uruguay? Boat ownership is a big deal here and kind of a status symbol. I don't want a boat, but so many people do.

Boating is not a big thing in Uruguay.

As I recall, there are a few small marinas in Montevideo and one larger one in Buceo.

As an example, you could take all the boats I've seen and they'd fit into a decent sized marina in Buffalo, NY.

The vast majority of boats here are smallish sailboats.

Very few CMY's.

If you go east to Punta Ballena and Punta del Este.. there are a lot of boats, many (if not most) owned by non-Uruguayans. In season (summertime), there are some really serious 'boats' there.

The Rolls Royces that you see in Punta with plates from Italy, France, etc, didn't come Federal Express. They drove off the back of a 'boat' moored in one of those two areas. Perhaps Steve has seen the (or perhaps one of 'the') Ferrari yachts moored at Punta.
